Congratulations to all the finalists who were acknowledged last night and awarded certificates in the SA Science Excellence and Innovation Awards. The ceremony was held at the new and very impressive Flinders University City Campus. With expansive and beautiful views over Adelaide, the sun gently set as MC, Dr Andrew Dunbar led the ceremony.
The Hon Dr Susan Close MP, Deputy Premier and Minister for Industry, Innovation and Science, spoke of the concept of risk across different cultures, and the way cultures deal with scientific challenges, highlighting an opportunity to learn from First Nations Cultures. She spoke about the importance of the work being undertaken by the finalists and the inspirational nature of it summarising with the statement, “We have an opportunity to be a lighthouse for many other parts of the world.”
Professor Craig Simmons, Chief Scientist for South Australia, in acknowledging the finalists, said, “This is a showcase of not only your achievements, but also of the multifaceted nature of research and innovation.”
