GigCity

We are proud to have implemented GigCity on behalf of the South Australian Government. It is an initiative delivering high-speed internet to innovation precincts across the state. There are now 21 innovation precincts throughout Adelaide with GigCity high speed Internet making Adelaide the city of choice for businesses, entrepreneurs and start-ups with ‘bandwidth hungry’ ideas, products and services that we need to transition to a modern and innovative economy. Participating businesses experience gigabit speed broadband, enabling greater collaboration between colleagues and easy sharing with clients around the world.

GigCity offers incredible speeds at highly competitive monthly costs, with customers connected and up and running with GigCity quickly, provided with second-to-none contract flexibility. Customers and Precinct Managers alike are highly satisfied with GigCity, and are raving about how fast and cheap the service is.

“We are connecting to speeds that are 20 times faster than our previous supplier. It’s cost effective and has enabled us to change the way we do business.” Tonsley Innovation District, Operations Manager Zachary Bailey.

Precincts and customers within precincts are also now being provided with a platform to engage with more actively with each other to grow their capability and networks. Innovation precincts and GigCity customers are thriving with research showing that in 2019, average growth of GigCity customers was 25%.

“The current GigCity connection is 100 times, at least, faster than what I’ve been used to and upload speed, which is actually quite critical for the work we do, is something like 500 times faster. It has been incredibly reliable, it’s incredibly affordable and a fantastic initiative.” Future Earth Systems founder, Chris Sampson.

“GigCity’s high speed internet enabled us to work seamlessly with negligible delays in uploading/downloading files,” says James Kim, Director EcoJet Engineering. This is crucial as our teams use large CAD (computer aided design) files. Collaborating with these digital files requires rapid uploading to online shared drives.

EcoJet Engineering Director James Kim says, “Reliable internet is something you don’t often appreciate until it goes wrong. But when it does, it impacts all elements of operations.”

Stretton-Centre

Case Study 1

GigCity is changing the way people work

Located in one of South Australia’s fastest-growing regions, the Stretton Centre’s regional business hub in Munno Para provides bespoke co-working, meeting and venue hire spaces, and offers onsite professional business support.

The Stretton Centre is currently home to 42 startups and medium sized businesses, and their Business and Industry Growth team is currently supporting projects, events and training in the key areas of defence, health, horticulture and construction.

Identified by the Department for Innovation and Skills as a focal point for job creation in northern Adelaide, the Stretton Centre was selected as one of the first GigCity sites when the South Australian Government initiative launched in late 2017.

The affordable, ultra-fast connectivity of GigCity equips businesses based at the Stretton Centre with a competitive advantage, allowing them to collaborate seamlessly with partners and customers around the world.

Two businesses within the Stretton Centre that are utilising and appreciating the benefits of the GigCity connection are Invisage Studios and Paricom. Having unlimited bandwidth as well as fast internet is paramount for Invisage Studio’s video production creation. They produce high quality video content for their clients as well digital marketing and live streaming, all of which depend on speed and reliability.

Likewise, Paricom is an IT service company relying on the GigCity connection to service their clients across many areas such as education, cloud services, remote support and managed services.

The Stretton Centre’s Manager of Business Development, Jared Ahern, said that GigCity connection allows the Stretton Centre to exceed customer expectations and provide a service that the local business community cannot access elsewhere.

“The Stretton Centre is a hub where entrepreneurs, industry, government, creatives and thinkers come together,”

Jared Ahern

Case Study 2

Securing People, Process and Technology

The impact of cybersecurity risk is constantly growing. Local industries and all levels of government are being tested by the changing landscape. The increasing adoption of internet connected devices (IoT) and mobile smart devices, has increased the vulnerabilities further.

CyberOps is a growing company offering cybersecurity services. They take their customers on a journey that includes building awareness, providing targeted advice, carrying out workshops and informal assessments and providing resources and services to build resilience.

CyberOps has been a member of the Stone & Chalk co-working space in the Lot Fourteen innovation district since its inception. Stone & Chalk proffers an environment of growth and opportunity and as such, CyberOps’ upscaling and growth is a success story, necessitating their recent move to larger premises.

“Many of the organisations we work with, and for, are also GigCity customers. We are aiming for a seamless and speedy collaboration experience with them”, explains Daniel Floreani. “We chose GigCity to allow us to collaborate with other local companies and also our international partners.”

The GigCity benefits of speed, resilience and security are very important to CyberOps as the cybersecurity side of their business relies on a high speed link to the internet to carry out much of their work. The space industry side of their activities increasingly involves moving large data sets from remote sensors into their office for further processing. They collaborate extensively with overseas companies as part of their space and cyber activities.

Through GigCity we are looking to derive efficiencies from being able to move data around at a faster and more efficient cost.
