Little City Coworking is a community of small business owners, freelancers and startups who prefer to work away from home or not in the traditional office environment. Situated in vibrant South Australian neighbourhoods, the custom-designed workspaces have all the features of a modern workplace without the corporate feel.

Offering a selection of private offices, dedicated desks, meeting rooms, phone booths and breakout areas, the spaces provide a comfortable and professional work environment with a creative atmosphere and natural light – a facility with contemporary amenities to support both emerging and established businesses.

Currently the Little City Coworking spaces are located in Prospect and Unley; both areas surrounded by parks, cafes, businesses and shops, and are close to the Adelaide CBD. The Unley site is in the Edmund Avenue Cottages which has recently been redeveloped and officially opened by the Mayor of Unley on 16 March 2023. The Little City Coworking members comprise a variety of industries, including; creative, financial, technology, recruitment, administrative and not-for-profit.

A combination of carefully planned features collectively creates the Little City Coworking entity and its success. One of the drawcards and well-appreciated features is the GigCity internet connection. Little City Coworking Director, Shaun Lyon, says, “It was essential to provide our members with a fast and reliable internet connection and extra bandwidth, which is crucial for productivity and collaboration. The reliability and the speed we get is super important as a new business standard.” The connection is large enough to accommodate all needs including, facilitating video calls, file syncing, quality and reliability of streaming, reduced lag time, quicker downloads and uploads.

As director, Shaun is constantly aware of, and assessing, all aspects of the Coworking space. He says, “In other offices and coworking places video calls may be fine during quiet times, but become very slow or drop out during busy times. Here the video calls are reliable and the same excellent quality all the time.” With their meeting rooms boasting the latest technology and contemporary stylings, the connection underpins and supports this innovative space.

The affordability of the GigCity connection also dovetails into the 4 key areas identified by Little City Coworking as places people want to work; location, cost, atmosphere and functionality. Shaun says, “GigCity is a cost-effective way to obtain the speed and bandwidth and makes sense economically for our members. It forms part of our value management ethos. In the same way we have invested in ergonomic furniture, our safe space and our services, our costs are passed on to our members so we assess what is worth spending money on very diligently.”

Many people understand the importance of download speed, but may not be aware that upload speed is also crucial. A videographer member in Prospect is particularly impressed with the speed and bandwidth, being able to upload files in full high definition (HD). These files are extremely large, which would be prohibitive with a different connection and they can be accessed anywhere.

A potential member working in the area of Fibre Security, whilst doing research for premises, considered Little City Coworking based on the GigCity connection. Shaun says, “ This particular business is an early adopter of technology. They would only consider locations that had such fast internet, reliability, bandwidth and security.”

The security of the connection has also been integral to a FinTech start up member’s business. This company comprises developers who work at the back end of financial systems. GigCity partner, Escapenet tailor made an independent connection which leverages off the backbone of the infrastructure, enabling control of all their devices, and providing them complete security.

Looking to the future, planning for additional Little City Coworking sites is underway. Shaun says, “GigCity has been so successful that I want to make it standard in future locations. When I look at potential sites, a key criteria will be the proximity to a GigCity connection.”
